چکیده
We present a collocated-grid framework for direct numerical simulations of polydisperse particles submerged in viscous fluid. The fluid-particle forces are coupled with the immersed boundary method (IBM) while particle-particle modeled combination contact and lubrication models, adapted collocated grids. Our is modified from staggered-grid IBM previous authors to by adapting fluid particle solvers. scales well on high-performance parallel computing platforms. It has been validated against various cases able reproduce experimental results. Tuning parameters have thoroughly calibrated ensure accuracy method. Finally, we demonstrate capability simulate both monodispersed bidispersed fluidized beds power law relationship between inflow velocity porosity.

Incompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations on free surface flows
The water wave generation by wave paddle and a freely falling rigid body are examined by using an Incompressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (ISPH). In the current ISPH method, the pressure was evaluated by solving pressure Poisson equation using a semi-implicit algorithm based on the projection scheme and the source term of pressure Poisson equation contains both of divergence free ve...

متن کاملA Coupled Lattice Boltzmann Method and Discrete Element Method for Discrete Particle Simulations of Particulate Flows
Discrete particle simulations are widely used to study large–scale particulate flows in complex geometries where particle–particle and particle–fluid interactions require an adequate representation but the computational cost has to be kept low. In this work, we present a novel coupling approach for such simulations. A lattice Boltzmann formulation of the generalized Navier–Stokes equations is u...
متن کاملAn improved numerical scheme for a coupled system to model soil erosion and polydispersed sediments transport
Overland flow and soil erosion play an essential role in water quality and soil degradation. Such processes, involving the interactions between water flow, suspended particles and soil, are classically described by a well-established system of PDE coupling the shallow water equations and the Hairsine-Rose model. The numerical approximation of this coupled system requires advanced methods to pre...
متن کاملTwo-dimensional AMR simulations of colliding flows
Context. Colliding flows are a commonly used scenario for the formation of molecular clouds in numerical simulations. Due to the thermal instability of the warm neutral medium, turbulence is produced by cooling. Aims. We carry out a two-dimensional numerical study of colliding flows in order to test whether statistical properties inferred from adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) simulations are robu...
